LINN — While the crowd wasn’t as large as organizer Linda Dudenhoeffer had hoped, she is pleased with the support shown at Saturday’s 5K color run/walk at Linn City Park for her daughter, Macy, who is planning to take part in World Race, an Atlanta-based organization that coordinates missionary trips to communities in need.
“We had to push the event back a week and that really hurt attendance,” said Dudenhoeffer. “We appreciate everyone who came out to participate.”
Macy, who graduated earlier this year from Missouri Southern State University at Joplin, has taken part in missionary trips since she was a senior at Linn High School. The World Race trip is slated to launch in January after being postponed from its original October launch.
She is scheduled to travel to South Africa, Eswatini, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Ethiopia, Nepal, South Asia, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. The missionary group will spend a month at each location and the total trip will be 11 months.
“This decision was not easy,” Macy said. “I was so excited to leave in October but God promises his plans for a better tomorrow. I am leaning more and more into the plans God has for me. I know my willingness to follow him right now, in this very moment, has the power to impact the trajectory of my entire life. Life is a series of steps, each step as important as the last. And the Holy Spirit is my guide, capable and willing to lead me into the fullness of God’s heart. Whatever the situation, wherever you find yourself, you must trust in our Heavenly Father will be there for us. In fact, he is there right now. His love and grace know no bounds. His wonderful plans won’t be shaken by the state of the world. Something that is really cool is no one and nothing can rob you of your inheritance in Jesus. I am choosing to run into the promises of God laid out before me.”
Linda said her daughter has always wanted to do this before settling down with a family.
“She loves to help people, especially children, and the missionary trips she’s taken in the past have prepared her for this one,” Linda added. “I’m very proud of her commitment to her faith.”
Missionaries will help poor communities with whatever is needed.
Thus far, Macy has raised about a third of the $18,000 cost of the trip, and the family plans to sell raffle tickets to close the gap.
