911 sales tax passes, Strong joins R-2 board

With 10.7% of voters turning out for last Tuesday’s election, 77% voted in favor of the 911 Continuation Sales Tax, which was approved by a 794-223 margin, according to official results certified by the Osage County Clerk’s office.

The closest margins were a 36-18 vote at Rich Fountain, and a 33-21 result at the Freedom precinct, while the largest margin of support came in the Linn 2 (St. John’s) precinct. Westphalia voters were also overwhelmingly in support of the continuation tax, with a 121-16 decision. This measure passed by 73 votes at both Loose Creek and Linn 1 (St. George).

A contested race ended with Linn R-2 school board incumbent Naomi Klouzek and challenger Dr. Shawn Strong each received 310, as incumbent Lori Greer secured 298 votes, and Sam Niederhelm had 261. There were 31 write-in votes.

At Fatima R-3, incumbents Keith Huhn (282) and Doug Luebbering (277) led polling, while challenger Andrew Samson was third with 242, and Wayne Baumhoer earned 224 votes.

Chamois R-1 school board incumbents Angela Hagenhoff and Steve Cramer were elected without opposition, with the former garnering 48 votes, and Cramer collecting 44. There were 19 write-in votes.

In the race for Belle mayor, Josh Seaver led the way among Osage County voters with 19 votes, followed by Steven F. Vogt (15),  Kayla Bray (10) and Terry Connors (6).

An ordinance authorizing the city of Meta to forgo an election if the number of candidates equals the number of positions to be decided passed by a 12-4 margin.

Westphalia voters approved an increase to the Special Road District’s tax levy to $0.1800 per $100 assessed valuation for a four-year period, 19-11.

UNCONTESTED RACES

Belle alderman: Jeannette Struemph (42), with one write-in.

Argyle trustees: Kym Brunnert and Ronnie Brunnert received no votes.

Linn alderman, Ward I: Steven Boeckmann (53)

Linn alderman, Ward II: Mike Montgomery (73)

Meta alderman: Otto Wankum (16) and Steven Sherrell (15), with one write-in.
