A New Adventure

A different set of rules for the ruling class

Posted

Many politicians have become addicted to power that their positions have given them. And it shows. They love to tell the working class what to do.

They are the ruling class. They believe they know best, that they are above us in every way. We are treated like young children who must obey their elders. Of course, the ruling class considers themselves above the law.

The United States Congress flaunts this by excluding themselves in many of the laws they have passed. Federal laws that do not apply to Congress include Title VI of the 1964 Act prohibiting discrimination based on race, color, or national origin, the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) and the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).

Interestingly, while witnesses in congressional hearings who make false statements under oath can be prosecuted for perjury, members of Congress are given an absolute privilege to lie with impunity in the House or Senate, by the Speech or Debate Clause in Article I, Section 6 of the U.S. Constitution.

Case in point, Adam Schiff, D-Calif., lied about the Trump-Russian collusion on the floor of Congress — and to the media — for three years.

Nowhere has the ruling class shown their true colors more than their hypocrisy concerning the COVID-19 pandemic. Here is a short list to remind you.

• Denver Mayor Michael Hancock boarded a plane to Mississippi less than an hour after telling his citizens not to travel for the holidays.

• Steve Adler, mayor of Austin, Texas recorded a video in a timeshare in Cabo, Mexico telling people to stay home because of COVID-19. He flew to Mexico in a private jet.

• California Gov. Gavin Newsom was caught dining at an upscale restaurant with lobbyists the same week he warned against Thanksgiving gatherings.

• The mayor of San Francisco, London Breed attended a birthday party at the same restaurant as Newsom three days before she banned all indoor dining in her city.

• House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., was caught unmasked at a hair salon that was supposed to be closed because of the coronavirus after she chided President Donald Trump for his reluctance to wear a mask.

• Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot had her hair done, while beauty parlors were closed.

• Washington DC’s Mayor Muriel Bowser demanded everyone self-quarantine after traveling to high-risk states. The rule apparently didn’t apply to her when she traveled to Delaware to celebrate Joe Biden’s victory.

• President Biden declared that masks must be worn on all government property. Hours later he and his family broke that rule at the Lincoln Memorial.

Are you seeing a pattern here? They are part of the ruling class who think they are better and that the rules don’t apply to them.

If you want more The Heritage Foundation has a list of over 50 examples — some of them Republicans. Kansas City’s mayor is the lone example from Missouri.

The ruling classes’ hypocrisy doesn’t end with COVID-19. It has been on display for years when it comes to climate change.

In 2019 Google held a camp at a seaside resort in Sicily on the climate crises which was attended by the rich and famous — including Barack Obama and Leonardo DiCapri. Many arrived in private jets and mega yachts.

President Biden recently chose John Kerry as his Special Envoy for Climate. Former Kerry campaign staffer Zach Friend said Kerry “will ‘hit the ground running’ as Climate Czar and Biden’s climate plans will send a ‘strong message’ internationally.”

He literally needs to hit the ground and stop traveling in his family’s private jet. It is estimated that his jet emitted 116 metric tons of carbon last year. In comparison, a typical passenger vehicle, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, emits about 4.6 metric tons of carbon per year.

What are the odds that the Biden Administration eliminates the use of private jets and luxury yachts in the effort to cut carbon emissions?

I wish Biden had asked me for my recommendations for his new Climate Czar. I have two friends who ‘practice what they preach.’

One has solar panels on the roof of his house and drives an electric car. The other used to run his diesel car on used oil from McDonald’s. Neither of these two Democrats is rich and powerful, nor are they part of the ruling class. But, either would put a better face on climate change than Kerry.

They would be believable.
