A political rarity

To the Editor:
Kudos to U.S. Representative Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) for taking a stance I thought extinct from today’s political circles: revering the truth more than personal political gain. And how is her reverence for honesty and defense of the U.S. Constitution rewarded? With vitriol and disdain from her Republican brethren. That’s shameless!
Too bad her father didn’t hold truth in such high regard when he tirelessly sought to convince anyone who would listen, especially George W. Bush, that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) and must be invaded.
Although the WMDs never materialized, what did materialize was thousands upon thousands of American battlefield heroes losing life, limb or brain. Or they acquired the endless agony of unimaginable burns and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
I shouldn’t, but I find it strange that fiscal conservatives showed little concern for deficit spending during this military escapade but are currently up-in-arms over spending trillions for the benefit of their constituency.
I extend my thanks to Representative Cheney for her fervent belief in the truth and her sworn duty to defend the U.S. Constitution. For a politician to display such reverence despite the high political costs is extremely rare and worthy of my sincere admiration. I just wonder from where she learned such laudable principles.
