Active-shooter training goes well at IC-LC

If an active shooter intends harm at a school here, the Osage County Sheriff’s Office is primed to intervene and to better prepare for such a situation, deputies joined with members of other agencies on Monday to execute a drill at Immaculate Conception School in Loose Creek.

“The exercise went well and served its purpose to help us prepare if we would ever face this in real life,” said IC-LC Principal Anne Luebbert.

Capt. Travis Shaffer organized and led the drill, noting there were no surprises. “The shooter was well hidden, so it took a minute for responding deputies to locate him,” Shaffer said. “We made it harder on responding agencies by having a bulk of the victims outside in the courtyard and some scattered inside.”

He explained that this makes it harder for paramedics to set up a triage point and forces responding agencies to spread their resources further.

“I think it went very well, and you can definitely see the positive effect these drills are having on first responders, as each time, everyone comes a little better equipped and confident than in previous exercises.”

Joining the OCSO were two crews from Osage Ambulance District, Linn Fire Protection District members, and a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper.
