ARGYLE — Argyle Treasurer Kym Brunnert reported at the board’s Aug. 21 meeting that Republic Services continues to charge the village for residents’ trash service despite the contract stipulating the company would start billing individual residents after May 2025.
Brunnert said that she had contacted the representative of the trash company and was told that they didn’t have the list of addresses needed to bill residents individually.
“I’m not sure that I understand that because I did send her a list, but apparently that wasn’t acceptable,” Brunnert said.
Republic Services has continued to withdraw money from the village’s account since it was set up as a direct debit.
“I talked to another girl at Republic Services, and she told me to go in and stop the automatic payment,” Brunnert said. “She said that would get their attention.”
Brunnert estimated that Republic Services owes the village for two months of trash service at this point.
Brunnert said people have been asking her about the billing, and she’s not sure what to tell them.
“I’m not sure how they are picking up the trash if they don’t have addresses,” Brunnert said. “I don’t understand it. I stopped the automatic payments, and now they aren’t getting paid at all.”
Brunnert said that she is sure that Republic Services will charge individual residents for past services.
“They were going to start billing everyone per quarter, so they might initially send a bill for six months and then go to a regular quarterly bill,” Brunnert said.
Brunnert plans to double-check the list of 40 households she had submitted to Republic Services as active customers and send it to the company again.
The monthly charge, after the automatic increase, should be $30.41 per household.
Brunnert reported that one good thing she discovered was that Republic Services has a very good website that allows individuals to track invoices, services, alerts, and pinpoint pick-up times. She encouraged everyone to sign up online and utilize the service.
In other business, Mayor Colby Davis praised the Knights of Columbus for the recent car show. He said that the event did not produce any issues for the village and had the highest turnout that he remembers.
“The pork burgers were good, and the t-shirts were crazy,” Davis said. “I was happy to see how well everything was handled.”
• Trustees discussed the April 7, 2026, election, noting that Trustee and Village Clerk Elizabeth Watring, Trustee and Village Treasurer Kym Brunnert, and Trustee Felecia Wieberg’s terms are coming to an end.
There will be more information available at the September meeting. Anyone interested in running for the board or anyone who has questions should contact current trustees.
• Davis has been working on patching potholes for the village streets over the past several months. He is hoping to get additional bags of cold patch and continue patching the streets when he has time.
Trustees will reimburse Davis for the money he has spent on materials.
• Davis and Trustee Chris Shank planned to coordinate taking down the flag poles after Labor Day.
• The water district will start flushing waterlines on the first Monday of each month, starting in September. In the past, the district has flushed the water lines on the first Tuesday of the month.
Wieberg posted the change on Argyle’s Facebook page.
