Audrey A. Vogel, 86, Linn and Waverly, passed away surrounded by her loving family Wednesday, June 17, 2020, at Good Shepherd Care Community, in Concordia.
Audrey was born Jan. 26, 1934, to Rhey and Edith (Allen) Gelven in Luystow.
She was united in marriage June 7, 1952, to Carl Vogel, at Fairview Church in rural Linn. He passed away April 13, 2011.
Audrey graduated from Linn High School in 1950 and later graduated from Lincoln University in 1969 where she then instructed biology and conducted research there. She returned to school and earned a master’s degree in botany, with an emphasis in ecology, from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Later, she taught chemistry at Linn High School and taught anatomy at Linn Technical College. She was a founding member of Linn Community Christian Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and occasionally played piano.
She enjoyed gardening and was well known for her flower gardens and arrangements. Playing cards and games, reading, sewing, working on puzzles, fishing, and playing piano were just some of Audrey’s many interests in life. Of all the things she enjoyed doing, spending time with her grandchildren was by far her greatest joy.
In addition to her spouse of 68 years, she was preceded in death by brother Don Gelven; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Elmer Mantle and John and Aletha Finnell.
She is survived by children, Marilyn (Vogel) Schreiman and her husband Harold of Waverly; and Douglas Vogel and his wife Rose of Jefferson City; grandchildren: Rachel (Schreiman) Baez and her husband Angel; Elaine Schreiman; Jessica (Vogel) Courtney and her husband Mark; Jesse Vogel and his wife Rebecca; Josie (Vogel) Townsend and her husband Grant; and Samuel Vogel; great-grandchildren, Adele, Olivia, Jack, and Eli Courtney; LJ, Anna, and Audrey Vogel; Leland and Levi Townsend; and nieces; nephews; additional family and friends.
A private family visitation and funeral service will be held at a later date. Interment will be in the Linn Public Cemetery. Memorial contributions suggested to Linn Community Christian Church or Osage County Historical Society.
Arrangements entrusted to Morton Chapel in Linn.
