Bickell looks for improved communication as R-2 candidate

Michael Bickell, 32, of Linn, recently appointed chief of the Linn Police Department, is seeking election to the Linn R-2 school board because as a parent, he wants what is best for the children at the school.
“I want to help make an effective change that will benefit future generations to come,” said Bickell, who with his wife of six-and-a-half years, Chelsea, has two sons, Oliver, 5, and Ayden, 3.
He added the biggest strength of the school district is that Linn R-2 employs well-educated teachers from this area that are focused and care about the students.
However, he said that improvements could be made to include the community in the decision-making process, and the programs the school offers.
“I would like to invite members of the community to offer their input for changes and gain their opinion on how they believe we could effectively obtain these changes,” said Bickell.
This is the first time Bickell has run for an elected position, but he cites plenty of experience that will help him be an effective board member.
“I have experience running budgets and managing large areas to effectively help people,” Bickell said. “As a law enforcement officer for over 11 years, I am used to making difficult decisions in high-stress situations. I am used to public speaking and talking in front of large crowds to help inform the public of events and other activities that are taking place. I have a high work ethic, and I’m driven to help people.”
