Cary Joseph Thompson, 90, Linn, passed away peacefully Friday, June 3, 2022, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Aug. 27, 1931, to the late Ray and Mary (Thomson) Thompson in Terre Haute, Ind.

He was a 1950 graduate of Normandy High School in St. Louis and proudly served his country in the U. S. States Air Force.

Cary was united in marriage to Maris (Gary) Thompson who preceded him in death in 1975. He was then united in marriage to Linda Lockwood Sept. 18, 1982, in St. Clair.

Cary worked in the security industry and had been employed by the United States Government, McDonnell Douglas and Chrysler before his retirement.

He was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Linn, Linn Lion’s Club and the American Legion Post 17 in Freeburg.

Cary enjoyed fishing, boating on Lake of the Ozarks, airplanes, his train collection, driving his rag top convertible hence his CB radio handle “Ragtop”. He loved all animals, especially his pets and enjoyed life. His greatest joy was time spent with his family and friends.

Cary was preceded in death by first wife, Maris; parents, Ray and Mary; an infant son; and an infant brother.

He is survived by spouse of 39 years, Linda; stepson, Ken Hassler of Florissant; step-daughters, Gayle Kummerfeldt of Petaluma, Calif. and Michelle Wolfe and husband Brad of Linn; grandchildren, Jacob Wolfe and wife Shannon, Jason and Matthew Kummerfeldt; and great-grandchild, Mia Wolfe.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m., Friday, June 10, at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Linn followed by the funeral service at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. William Barkman officiating. Inurnment will be held at Linn Public Cemetery with full military honors.

Memorial contributions suggested to St. John’s United Methodist Church, Kindred Hospice or the Allen Waterman Animal Assistance Fund.
