Chamois faced a tough test at Linn on Friday and though it was close throughout the game, it was a little too much for the Lady Pirates, who lost 52-43.

“This was a close conference game,” said Coach John Leach. “We played well enough to win, but gave up too many fastbreak points and came up short.”

Chamois held a 13-12 lead after the first quarter but the Lady Cats turned the tide in the second, using a 13-8 edge to take a 25-21 half-time lead. From there, Linn maintained an edge through the next two quarters.

Of the 43 points scored by Chamois, 35 came from MaKenna Wuelling, who drained five treys and finished with 18 points, and Katie Keilholz, who sunk two from the outside and covered 7-8 from the line on the way to 17 points, as Alexis Slusser put in six and Abby Keilholz added two. K. Keilholz led with three assists, Wuelling had two, and Chloe Holloway finished with one.

On the glass, Slusser snagged a team-high eight rebounds as Wuelling grabbed six, K. Keilholz and Claire Brandt each had three, A. Keilholz posted two, and Ariel Owens and Veronica Slack added one apiece.

Defensively, Wuelling counted three steals, as Owens, K. Keilholz and Brandt finished with one each.

On Tuesday of last week, the Lady Pirates claimed a 64-32 win over Jamestown.

“It was good to win our third game in a row, and helped us get confidence heading into our last week of the regular season,” said Leach. “I’m really proud of the effort.”

Chamois jumped out fast, claiming a 20-9 lead after the first quarter, and a 41-7 lead at the break. A 13-4 edge in the final quarter put the game away.

K. Keilholz went 4-12 from three-point range and led the Lady Pirates with 28 points, as Wuelling hit 3-4 from the outside on her way to 22 points.

Slusser added six, Slack put in four, and Owens and Holloway scored two each. Wuelling led in the assists column with five as K. Keilholz added four, and Owens and Slack posted one apiece. Slusser’s 10 rebounds paced the team, with six more by Holloway, four apiece by Owens, Wuelling and K. Keilholz, and two each from Slack, A, Keilholz and Alex McKague.

Wuelling counted eight steals in the contest and K. Keilholz added seven, with another by McKague. Wuelling and K. Keilholz also recorded a block apiece.
