Chamois R-1 art students — Braxton Uthe (K-2), Carly Schollmeyer (3-5), Brooklyn Whited (6-8), and Rylee Davis (9-12) — and their outstanding artworks were exhibited in the Missouri Art Education Association 2022 Youth Art Month Capitol Exhibit from Feb. 12 through March 21 at the Capitol Rotunda in Jefferson City.
On March 21, Missouri art teachers, students, and students’ families attended the Youth Art Month Capitol Exhibit Awards and Recognition Ceremony at the Missouri State Capitol, on the first floor of the Capitol Rotunda. Chamois R-1 students were joined by their art teacher, Joyce Wright.
Before and after the ceremony, students looked at the murals on the capitol walls, visited the Whispering Chamber, and climbed many stairs to the very top of the capitol dome for a 360-degree view of Jefferson City and the Missouri River. Also, a staff member of Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft showed the group a retired Missouri state seal press, and each student was permitted to make their own Missouri state seal for a souvenir to take home. The staff member shared some very interesting history about the state seal maker and the office of the secretary of state.
