Chamois is still adapting to the various challenges that have befallen the volleyball team but coaches are pleased with the effort.

On Monday, the Lady Pirates fell to Calvary Lutheran, 10-25, 11-25, 13-25.

“It was nice to finally be back home after all road games last week,” said Coach Katie Kuschel. “The girls hustled so well this game and showed more energy than last week but we struggled with our fundamentals with too many bad passes and serves that ultimately cost us the game.”

Offensively, Alex McKague, Eevie Halbert, and Ariel Owens posted an ace apiece, while McKague also had a pair of assists.

At the net, Halbert led with two kills and Owens posted one.

Defensively, Owens had a team-high five digs to go with three by Madeline Gerloff, and two each by McKague, Halbert, and Kendall Mitchem.

On Friday, Chamois lost to Fatima’s JV team, 16-25, 7-25, 0-25.

“Fatima has a very good volleyball program,” said Kuschel. “We are a very young and much smaller team in comparison. We still have a lot of work to do on our serve/receive to be truly competitive against some of the bigger schools in our conference. This was a Friday evening game after already having two away matches and for some, an additional cross country meet. We just simply ran out of steam.”

On the night, McKague had a kill and an assist, Halbert posted an assist and a dig, Mitchem finished with a block and a kill, Owens recorded three digs, and Gerloff finished with a block.

In last Tuesday’s match against North Callaway, Chamois lost 4-25, 8-25, 15-25.

“We were thrown another last-minute curveball with a lineup change due to illness,” said Kuschel. “We struggled the first and second match adapting to the changes and then we switched up the defense for the third game and we were able to compete at a much better level. I’m hopeful when North Callaway comes to Chamois we will be able to bring home a win.”

Halbert posted two kills and three assists, Owens had five digs and a kill, Gerloff had a kill and two digs, Mitchem counted three assists and a dig, Madison Bracken posted two kills, and Devin Slusser finished with a dig.
