Charles Richard Honse, 83, Vienna, was born
Jan. 10, 1939, at Vienna, a son of Clyde Avery and Mabel (Frey) Honse, and passed from this life Thursday, July 28, 2022, in Phelps Health, Rolla.
He was married on Dec. 26, 1958, to the former Miss May Vera Backues, by Travis John, Sr. at his residence in Vienna, with Bonnie Backues and Edwin Honse serving as witnesses. To this union two children were born.
Charles was a jack of all trades. He was a carpenter, heavy equipment operator, and a laborer. Charles was an active member in the community serving on the Maries County Fair Board, volunteering on the Vienna Fire Department, and the Maries Osage Ambulance for several years. His hobby was antique AC tractors and antique tractor pulls.
He was baptized by Brother Bowey, in Terry Baptist Church, on April 24, 1955. Charles was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Vienna when he passed.
Charles was preceded in death by son Dale Charles Honse, Jan. 5, 1996; granddaughter Shanna Renee Maples, Nov. 5, 1977; father Clyde, Dec. 1, 1991; mother Mabel, Jan. 26, 2005; brothers Harold Clyde Honse April 15, 2016, and wife Jewell Marie (Opperman) Honse March 21, 2006, Lowell Pete Honse, Dec. 21, 1999, Donald Eugene Honse, Oct. 20, 2007, and wife Mary Mildred “Millie” (Zimmer) Honse, Oct. 15, 2010, Robert Leroy Honse, June 4, 1996, and wife Joan (Hutchison) Honse, Jan. 25, 1971, Edwin Wesley Honse, Sept. 26, 2006, and Forrest Roger Honse, Nov. 18, 2020; sister-in-law Barbara Sue (Breeding) Honse, Sept. 10, 2021; brothers-in-law Jesse Cahill, Jan. 30, 1998, and Gene Backues, Feb. 28, 2002; father and mother-law Leslie Backues, Dec. 30, 1986, and wife Beulah, Oct. 9, 2005.
He is survived by loving wife of 63 years May Vera Honse, of the home in Vienna; daughter Loretta Maples and husband Don of Springfield; grandchildren Jennifer Crawford and husband Brian and Aubrey Rippee and husband Brett; five great-grandchildren Alivia Grace Crawford, Jackson Dale Crawford, Harley Reese Crawford, Shayna Ivy Rippee, and Scarlett Ann Rippee; brother Allen Honse of Vienna; sister Joyce Ramsey and husband Gabe of Marshall; sisters-in-law Jean Honse of Cluster City, Okla., Vivian Honse, Elizabeth “Liz” Rowden and husband Ron, Joyce Honse, Bonnie Cahill, and Debbie Backues all of Vienna.
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 31, at Birmingham-Martin Funeral Chapel, Vienna, with Pastor Doug Lane officiating.
Interment was in the Vienna Public Cemetery with Doug Cahill, Les Hutchison, Paul Honse, Justin Darr, Tommy Honse and Matt Prenger serving as his pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Don Maples, Brian Crawford, Brett Rippee, Jackson Crawford, Alivia Crawford, Harley Crawford, Shayna Rippee, Scarlett Rippee, Jacob Cahill, Nathanial Cahill, Dennis Hutchison, and Scott Dake.
