Comet Pride marching band performs at the Alamo Bowl

The Fatima Comet Pride marching band traveled to San Antonio, Texas, to perform at the Valero Alamo Bowl half time show, and earned second place.

The band, color guard and several chaperones left Fatima at 1 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2019. After a long day of travel, the group were dinner guests at the Hard Rock Café San Antonio. The following day the band and color guard participated in mass rehearsal with many other bands and color guard teams that also performed during the half time show. Later that day everyone visited the Tower of the Americas. The 750-foot tall tower provides visitors with a breathtaking 360-degree panorama of the Alamo City. While at the Tower of Americas, the group also enjoyed a 4-D theater ride exploring Texas and its history. That evening the group attended the Alamo Bowl Pep Rally at Arneson Theatre and had dinner at Casa Rio.

Monday was an exciting day as the band and color guard performed in the parade competition, earning second place as the drum majors won the award for outstanding drum major.

Band members spent the afternoon enjoying the sights and amusement rides at Sea Word. That evening, the group attended the outdoor dinner and awards ceremony at Tejas Rodeo Company. While there, the group had the opportunity to participate in dancing, making s’mores over an open fire and calf-roping.

On New Year’s Eve, the band and color guard participated in the final rehearsal at the Alamodome before eating lunch at Fuddruckers, watching “Alamo – The Price of Freedom” at the IMAX theater, sightseeing at the Alamo and doing a little shopping. That evening, students put on their uniforms and performed during halftime of the football game between the Utah Utes and the Texas Longhorns. Following the game everyone loaded onto the bus, counted down to the new year while watching fireworks along the way and returned to Fatima.

Fatima band members, color guard, band director Mr. Lewis, and the Fatima Music Boosters would like to thank everyone who has supported them through fundraisers, donations and all other avenues. Without community support, many of the students would not have been able to participate in this memorable trip.
