David Tripp 1944-2025

David H. Tripp, 81, Holts Summit, formerly of Bonnots Mill, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 23, 2025, at SSM Health St. Mary’s in Jefferson City surrounded by his loving family. 

He was born February 27, 1944, to the late Harold and Dorothy (Scott) Tripp in Mexico.

He was a 1962 graduate of Jefferson City High School.

David was united in marriage to Judy Schmitz Sept. 24, 1966, at St. Louis of France Catholic Church in Bonnots Mill.   

He was employed with Von Hoffman Press, for the City of Jefferson as a firefighter for 30 years until his retirement in 1999. David later worked for Korsmeyer Fire Protection and then Hometown Lumber in Linn.

He enjoyed quail and pheasant hunting in Red Cloud, Neb., fishing at Truman Lake and hunting everything he could hunt in Osage County. David also enjoyed raising and training bird hunting dogs, playing cards especially, pitch and preference, driving the gravel back roads to think,  and watching western shows on television.  His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. 

David was preceded in death by parents, Harold and Dorothy.

He is survived by Judy, wife of 58 years; daughters, Donna Naylor and husband Kevin of Oak Grove, Carol Brandt and husband Dennis of Chamois and Mary Shelton and husband Shane of New Bloomfield; grandchildren, Mindy Parsley, Paige Cassels, Lindsey Shecut, Paige Shelton and Zachary, Emily and Andrew Brandt; great-grandchildren, Kameron, Julia, Sami, Dexter and Ava; great-great-grandson, Waylon; sister, Patricia Schaefer and husband Larry of New Bloomfield; along with many nieces, nephews and friends. 

A Celebration of Life Service was held Saturday, April 5, at Morton Chapel in Linn with Pastor Sam Powell officiating.  Inurnment will follow in St. Louis of France Parish Cemetery near Bonnots Mill.

Memorial contributions suggested to the Jefferson City Fire Museum.
