This time next week, it will be win or go home for Hannah Koppelmann’s Owensville Dutchgirl softball team.

That is because the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Class 3, District 3 Softball Tournament at Sullivan High School will be underway beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 12 at Sullivan Bank Ball Park.

Earning the top seed in the eight-team field was the host Lady Eagles from Sullivan.

Currently 18-6 on the season, Sullivan has victories over district opponents in Owensville, St. Clair, St. James and Lutheran South helping them to the top seed.

They will face the eighth-seeded St. Clair Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday, Oct. 12 at 4:30 p.m.

Carrying a 1-15 record as of press time, St. Clair has three losses against St. James to go along with losses against Owensville and St. Francis Borgia among district foes.

The other first-round game on the top half of the bracket has the fourth-seeded Ursuline Academy Lady Bears taking on the fifth-seeded St. Francis Borgia Lady Knights next Wednesday at 4:30 p.m., in Sullivan.

Ursuline is currently 7-11 and has not played any of the other seven teams in the district field.

Borgia comes in at 7-14 with a victory over St. Clair in their lone match up with a district opponent as of press time.

A pair of black and gold teams will kick off the bottom half of the bracket on Tuesday, Oct. 12 at 6 p.m., in the second-seeded Lutheran South Lady Lancers and seventh-seeded Cuba Lady Wildcats.

Currently 11-9-1 as of press time, Lutheran South fell to top-seed Sullivan 15-0 in four innings Monday night two days after the district bracket was set.

Other than the Sullivan game, Lutheran South did not have any other contests against district opponents on their regular-season slate.

Capping the district bracket on Wednesday, Oct. 13 at 6 p.m., will be the third-seeded Owensville Dutchgirls facing the sixth-seeded St. James Lady Tigers.

Koppelmann’s Dutchgirls handed St. James a 21-2 loss back on Wednesday, Sept. 29 at OHS Field as part of a Four Rivers Conference (FRC) varsity softball doubleheader along with New Haven.

This was necessary due to Owensville being quarantined during middle portion of September causing hosting duties of their annual softball tournament to be turned over to Russellville.

Games against Belle, St. James and New Haven were also postponed during the quarantine period.

Among district opponents, Owensville has victories over St. Clair and St. James to go along with a 10-0 loss to top-seeded Sullivan.

They currently sit at 11-7 following a 6-2 victory Monday night at OHS Field over Cuba.

Sitting at 10-9 as of press time, St. James has a win and loss against Cuba to go with three wins over St. Clair and a loss to Sullivan among district opponents during the regular season.
