Dorothy Jean Morris, 93, Bonnots Mill, formerly of Columbia, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at her home with her family at her bedside.

She was born Nov. 8, 1927, to the late Leonard Ernest and Gertrude Cecil (Newman) Carpenter, in Sturgeon.

She was united in marriage to Charles “Blackie” Morris, June 29, 1946, in Columbia.

Dorothy was employed for many years as a housekeeper in Columbia and around Jefferson City prior to retiring in the early 2000s.

She was of the Methodist faith and a firm believer in God.

She was preceded in death by husband of 68 years, Blackie; son, Charlie; parents, Leonard and Gertrude; son-in law, Billy Gibson; sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Maurice Cook; and nephew, Bill Cook.

Dorothy is survived by daughters, Donna Gibson of Taos, Sheila Boyer and husband Glenn of Columbia and Kim Verslues of Bonnots Mill; grandchildren, Gene Gibson and wife Becky of Taos, Lori Freie and husband Tim of Columbia, Mindy Skaggs and friend Jamie Kelleher of Columbia, Eddie Gibson and friend Teri Blake of Bixby, Randy Boyer and wife Neala of Manhattan, Kan., Kyle Boyer of Columbia and Shelby and Shane Verslues of Bonnots Mill; great-grandchildren, Gavin Morris and wife Jess of Columbia, James Gibson of Charleston, Erika McGrath and husband Jake of Harrisburg, Bridget Neel of Salisbury, Tyler Freie, Blaine Skaggs and Shane Boyer, all of Columbia, Brandon Gibson of Moberly and Riland Boyer of Manhattan, Kan.; great-great-grandson, Bentley Morris of Columbia and another one on the way; niece, Bonnie Isgrig of Ashland; her loyal companions, Half Pint and Gracie; and the many friends and acquaintances that she met over the years.

She was a very talented seamstress and cook. Dorothy enjoyed doing word search games with her companions by her side. She also found joy in cleaning her house and taking care of her yard but the most important thing in her life was taking care of her family. Her family was her greatest joy.

She was truly an angel that God blessed us with for 93 years. Now we are left with a tremendous hole in our family puzzle but one day we will all be together again and our family puzzle will once more be complete.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 10, at the Fountain of Life church in Jefferson City with Pastor Valerie Fowler officiating.

A private family inurnment will be in Columbia Cemetery next to her husband and son.
