Elmo Hamburg, 67, Linn, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2023, at Boone Hospital in Columbia after a very courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease and colon cancer.

He was born June 2, 1955, to the late Theodore and Alma (Franken) Hamburg in Jefferson City.

He was a graduate of St. George Elementary School, a 1973 graduate of Linn High School and received an associate’s degree in electrical engineering from Linn State Technical College.

Elmo was employed with Fasco in Eldon, then Cal-Type IT Solutions and then Boone County Assessor’s Office as a Senior IT Programmer where he retired in 2017.

He was of the Catholic faith.

Elmo thoroughly enjoyed tearing objects down to the bare bones, repairing the item and then meticulously and successfully putting them together again. He loved going on an annual trip to Mexico with his special lifelong friends. Elmo enjoyed fishing, turkey and deer hunting with his friend, John Schaefer, gardening and canning.

He was preceded in death by parents, Theodore and Alma; brother, Elston Hamburg; and brothers-in-law, David Kliethermes and Robert Niekamp.

Elmo is survived by sons, Lukas Hamburg of Ashland and Jonah Hamburg of Cuba, N. Y.; brother, Eugene Hamburg of Linn; sisters, Evelyn Niekamp and Edna Kliethermes, both of Linn; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins and beloved friends.

Mass of Christian burial was held Monday, Jan. 30, at St. George Catholic Church in Linn with Rev. Daniel J. Merz officiating.

Memorial contributions suggested to Parkinson Foundation or to Masses.

Arrangements entrusterd to Morton Chapel in Linn.
