Family Worship Center holds Freedom Day Celebration

The First Assembly of God Church of Linn, also known as the Family Worship Center, hosted its annual Freedom Day Celebration Friday, July 3. Hot dogs from the grill, soda, cookies, and other traditional picnic fare fed the crowd; and the weather cleared up just in time for the evening to be pleasant and enjoyable.

Two bounce houses supplemented the congregation’s permanent playground equipment. The church enjoys a healthy population of children, and they kept the facilities very busy throughout the evening. Face-painting was also a popular feature.

The Wanda Mountain Boys, a traditional Southern Gospel quartet from Herculaneum, entertained the crowd in the twilight, and were among the most relieved when the rain stopped. It probably took them longer to get their electronic stage equipment up and running. They kept it under wraps until the showers left for good.

An enthusiastic crowd of about 170 enjoyed fireworks after dark. Pastor Matt Lee figured the assembly, down from about 250 last year, would be affected by the weather. It was raining right up to the time they set up the dinner canopy. Others suspected recent coronavirus caution would suppress attendance. However, the property seemed to be well occupied. The patriotic flock enjoys this outdoor event every summer the weather permits.
