Fatima’s JV Lady Comets defeated Rolla 42-39 in double overtime last Wednesday to claim first place at the St. James tournament to improve to 5-0.
“Our defense was pretty strong most of the night,” said Coach Fick, whose team faced a 16-9 deficit after the first quarter. “Rolla’s girls just came out and knocked in some shots early to start the game.”
By the half, Fatima trailed 21-17. “You could tell the girls were a little frustrated, but it was self-inflicted,” said Fick. “We missed a few layups and six free throws. That’s a struggle for us right now. In the second half, the girls came out and attacked the paint and drew fouls. My biggest takeaway and compliment that I gave the girls is that they never stopped being mentally tough to stay in the game. Being down early and fighting all the way back isn’t easy, so I’m proud of them for that.”
Alex Berhorst led with 15 points, followed by Payton Wieberg (10), Elise Dickneite (9), Madelyn Backes (5), Adalyn Berhorst (2), and Jaiden Wieberg (1).
