The Lady Comets on Saturday won the Fulton Inv. as two runners finished in the top 10.

The girls raced better this week, being a little more aggressive in the second half of the race, despite high heat indexes and tired legs after a couple of tough workouts this week,” said Coach Marc Bridges.

Fatima’s 1-5 split was 1:45. “That isn’t too bad but we will look to tighten up our pack next week,” said Bridges. “The sun decided to make a full appearance during the varsity girls race, causing the heat index to spike, creating tough racing conditions.

Despite the heat, the girls did a good job of adjusting their efforts to avoid problems.”

Alexis Fisher led the team with a sixth-place time of 21:51, followed by Kendall Haller (10, 22:09), Kailey Woody (20, 22:58), Emma Bower (21, 23:03) and Sarah Groene (26, 22:36).

Corinn Karst has a very good race in the JV division, earning a third-place medal in a time of 24:59.

“All of our girls got off to a fast but controlled start and did a pretty good job of gaining positions throughout the race,” said Bridges.

“I hope to get everybody feeling as close to 100% as I can in an effort to have fast races on the new State Course at Gans Creek in Columbia this weekend.”

The varsity boys finished second as Lucas Laux posted a sixth-place time of 18:01 and Dawson Woehr was seventh with the same time.

“The boys are starting to race with a little more confidence and the varsity has begun to develop three distinct groups, with Lucas Laux and Dawson Woehr working together, Elijah Selin (15, 18:42) and Caden Haslag (19, 18:48) working together, and Jake Boyce, Michael Kloeppel (29, 19:12), and Thomas Libbert (41, 19:55) pacing together,” said Bridges.

The Comets had a 1:11 1-5 split and medaled their top four.

“There is still a lot of work to be done but I’m pretty satisfied with our progress so far,” said Bridges.

In the JV race, Fatima had three medalists as Dean Hagenhoff took second in 19:07, Gavin Satterfield was fourth in 20:21, and Eli Froning finished 12th in 21:15.

“Our guys race very hard each week fighting to move up to the varsity and that competitive effort is really driving the back half of our boys squad in a positive direction,” said Bridges.

Rounding out the JV squad on Saturday was Collin Bridges, (63, 26:50).
