Fatima controlled the soccer pitch last week against Fulton, Blair Oaks and Sacred Heart, ending the week with an impressive 18 goals and three wins. Junior Hannah Heisler finished each game with a hat trick.
The Lady Comets named seniors Megan Borgmeyer and Maci Kloeppel and junior Hannah Heisler captains. With seven regular season games remaining, the team has already won more games than the last three years ending season records.
“All 18 players on this roster are contributing to our success,” said Coach Dustin Cox. “We are passing better than we have all season and the players are growing as a team.”
Last week, nine players either scored or assisted goals: junior Jeana Abbott (1 goal), freshman Addy Berhorst (1 assist), freshman Alex Berhorst (2 goals, 4 assists), Borgmeyer (1 goal, 2 assists), Heisler (11 goals, 1 assist), junior Kaitlyn Plassmeyer (1 goal, 1 assist), sophomore Kristen Robertson (1 goal, 1 assist), sophomore Isabella Schaben (1 goal), and senior Cami Wieberg (1 assist). Defensively, the team only allowed two goals for the week, thanks to the combined efforts of a veteran defense and goalkeepers Chloe Adamson and Kendall Gerling.
“We’ve advanced in a short period of time to a team that can compete with anyone on our schedule,” said Coach Sami Jo Freeman. “Our road to districts includes seven games that we expect to be very competitive, but we believe in our team’s ability to hold defensively and implement the new offensive strategies we’ve been practicing to keep up the creative scoring.”
The Lady Comets continue to maintain the best start in recorded history with a 9-4 winning record after 13 games. Statistically, the team is only three goals shy of breaking the program’s goal scoring record of 3.1 goals per game, and has the best defensive presence since 2010 by only allowing 1.4 goals per game.
