Fatima R-3 school board members at a special meeting on Oct. 6 unanimously voted to lift mask mandates.
“We have zero positives,” Superintendent Chuck Woody said. “We have one quarantine and that was because of a mom or dad positive at home.”
Student testing for COVID-19 at Fatima is performed by school nurse Lynn Reasons and testing is currently done only with parents’ permission.
“I called her and she said she’s testing kids only if the parents ask for it,” said Woody. “I don’t know how many she is testing. I didn’t ask her for numbers.”
“She said that she calls a parent and says ‘your child’s in here, these are the symptoms they have.’ She said that she doesn’t just do it,” said board member Suzanne Massman. “She always asks first.”
Students and faculty exposed to COVID-19 will not be quarantined if they are vaccinated or have a positive antibody test.
The Osage County Health Department does not do free antibody testing, but Cole County offers the tests free of charge with an appointment.
A positive antibody test is good for 90 days.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Oct. 20.
