Fatima capped a solid regular season with a 12-2 win over Montgomery County on Monday to enter the postseason at 22-6.

Kinzey Woody (3-4, 3 RBI) had a great outing, adding two home runs to her career total (43). Eva Wildhaber (2-3, double, HR, 2 RBI) and Madelyn Backes (1-2, HR, 3 RBI) also generated a lot of offense.

Fatima scored three in the first, one in the third, three in the fourth, and five in the fifth to end the game.

Mia Kliethermes added two hits and an RBI, as Lilly Cunningham and Kristen Robertson counted a hit apiece.

Kliethermes claimed the win after a complete game in which she struck out five and walked none while allowing one earned run on five hits.

On Thursday, the Lady Comets defeated New Bloomfield 4-3 with consecutive round-trippers in the bottom of the seventh to close the game.

“It was a good team win,” said Coach Ashlee Schnieders. “We had many players in different positions, and girls got some opportunities to show us what they could do. There was some great hitting by Mia and Kristen for the win. Great job in the pitching circle, too.”

After NB scored three in the top of the first, Fatima answered with a run in the bottom of the frame.

The score would remain 3-1 until the bottom of the seventh when Elise Dickneite (1-4) singled and moved to second on a grounder. That set the stage for Kliethermes (4-4, 2 RBI), who left no doubt as she drilled the ball to dead center field for a two-run HR.

With one out, Robertson (1-3, RBI) entered the batter’s box and delivered the second straight home run to end the game.

Also collecting a hit apiece were Cunningham, Megan Gabelsberger, Wildhaber, and Sydney Scheppers.

Wildhaber started and allowed three earned runs on three hits with a walk. Ava Heckemeyer closed the game with a strikeout and no hits over five innings for the win.

Prior to the start of the game, the teams joined forces to celebrate Kim Crede’s survival from breast cancer. The Maries County Bank presented her with a $500 check.

Fatima lost to Helias, 6-0, on Wednesday of last week.

“They were an excellent hitting team, well coached, and their pitcher had a great game,” said Coach Schnieders. “This was a great game leading into the postseason to learn and make adjustments when needed. The girls will be more prepared as we move forward.”

Fatima was held to three hits, with Gabelsberger’s double leading the team. Dickneite and Kliethermes each added a single.

From the circle, Kliethermes started the game and went 4.2 innings. She allowed three earned runs on eight hits, with two strikeouts and a walk.

In the JV game, Fatima lost 6-4.

Maci Wilbers had two hits with an RBI, as Kacey Brune (RBI), Mindy Buscher (RBI), Scheppers (double), Karley Schaben, Sadi Lehmen, and Lauren Stuecken added a hit apiece. Heckemeyer also had an RBI.

Heckemeyer pitched 2.2 innings, allowing five earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts and a walk. Wildhaber, in one inning, allowed one earned run on two hits with one strikeout.

The Lady Comets lost to Hallsville, 2-1, last Monday.

Offensively, Woody led with two hits while Backes and Kliethermes each had one.

Kliethermes took the loss after allowing one earned on six hits with four strikeouts over six innings.

Fatima won the JV contest 4-1.

Schaben (3-3, 2 RBI) led the team, as Wilbers added two hits, and Heckemeyer (double, RBI) and Anna Struemph posted one hit each.

Over 4.2 innings, Heckemeyer allowed no runs on five hits with 11 strikeouts.
