Fatima hit a groove on Monday and scored 11 runs over three innings to claim an 11-6 victory over Hallsville. That came after last Wednesday’s 4-3 loss to North Callaway on Senior Night.
“It was a good week for the Lady Comets!” Coach Ashlee Schnieders said. “We’re working on the little things and preparing for postseason with some good competition.”
Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the third, the Lady Comets went to work.
Elise Dickneite (2-4, double, HR, 2 RBI) led off the third with a single, and moved up when Sadi Lehmen (2-3, double) singled through the left side. Both scored on a Maci Wilbers (2-4, 4 RBI) double to tie the game. Rylie Wieberg (2-4, double, 2 RBI) kept it going with a single, with Wilbers scoring on the throw. Two batters later, Alyssa Reichel (1-3, RBI) delivered a single to plate Wiberg for a 4-2 lead.
In the fourth, Emma Schwartze (1-4) singled, and Dickneite and Lehmen reached on consecutive errors with one run scored. Runners advanced on a passed ball before Wilbers hit an RBI groundout to plate Dickneite.
Wiberg smashed a double to center field to bring home Lehmen, and Fatima held a 7-2 advantage. An Ava Heckemeyer (1-4, RBI) drove in the eighth run of the game.
After Hallsville plated two in the fifth, Fatima returned in the bottom of the inning to put the game away with three runs.
Schwartze reached on an error to lead off the bottom of the fifth, and Dickneite made it count with a two-run HR to center field. Lehmen followed up with a double, and Wilbers drove her in with another single.
Heckemeyer allowed one earned run on five hits with one strikeout in her two-inning start. Wieberg closed out the game, allowing one earned run on nine hits with a strikeout.
On Wednesday, the Lady Comets celebrated two highlights, honoring seniors and the fight against breast cancer.
“We honored our seniors last week,” said Schnieders of Dickneite, Mindy Buscher, and Sydney Scheppers. “We are so grateful for their dedication to our program and wish them nothing but the best!”
Before the game, Fatima softball presented a check to Teresa Luebbert to aid her fight against cancer. “We are so honored to have had the opportunity to show our support to this local family,” said Schnieders.
As for the game, Fatima lost 4-3 in eight innings.
The Lady Comets led 2-1 after the first, and the game was tied at 3-3 after seven.
Lehmen (2 RBI) and Wieberg (RBI) posted two hits apiece, while Wilbers and Buscher added a hit and an RBI each.
Heckemeyer started the game and, in five innings, allowed three earned runs on six hits, with a strikeout and a walk. In three innings, Wieberg allowed no runs on one hit, with three strikeouts and two walks.
