Fatima wrestlers began the week off with a very competitive tri against Southern Boone and Helias, splitting with a 42-33 win over SoBo and a 51-15 loss to Helias.
“The team wrestled very well in both duals,” said Coach Kurt Strope. “We won most of the matches in the SB dual and we were highly competitive in all of our matches against Helias. They are just better than us right now. We made an improvement against Helias though improving our dual score from last year.”
In the duals on Tuesday, Lucas Laux picked up two wins, giving him 100 career wins and entering him into a select group at Fatima to have reached that milestone.
On Saturday at the Owensville tournament, the Comets had some of their best wrestling of the year, picking up four placers on the day, with several more who were really close.
Jason Strope led the team with a first-place finished as Laux, Blake Wiles and Alex Even each earned second, Caleb Reinkemeyer claimed fourth, Morgan Eggleston and Luke Schroeder each were fifth, and Eli Froning and Jason Woodruff placed sixth in their divisions.
”The group wrestled very well,” said Strope. “Each of them got tough matches on the day; some we won and some we lost. Each wrestler learned a few things but all of them wrestled very well. The improvement I saw from everyone this weekend is setting up for a very good end of the year.”
