Fatima varsity had a great week, with wins over Eugene and Owensville.
“The girls seem to be finding a groove with our rotation, and I hope this will remain consistent,” said Coach Lacy Bertels. “We are still working on a few hiccups that I hope will pay off when we face bigger opponents in the near future. We are so proud of how hard they are working recently.”
Fatima knocked off Eugene 25-19, 25-19, 27-25.
Alayna Backes led the way with five aces, 13 kills, 11 digs, five blocks, and one assist.
Other stats — Vivian Bax (3 aces, 10 digs, 7 kills, 1 block), Sydney Muenks (6 kills, 3 digs, 1 assist, 1 ace), and Annabelle Horton (12 digs, 2 aces, 1 assist).
In the JV contest, Fatima lost 16-25, 24-26.
On Wednesday of last week, the Lady Comets handled the Dutchgirls, 25-16, 25-16, 25-20.
Lily Kempker’s seven aces paced the squad as she collected 21 assists, eight digs, two kills, and a block.
Other stats — Leah Muenks (6 aces, 7 digs), Backes (1 ace, 11 kills, 6 blocks, 5 digs, 1 assist), and Bax (1 ace, 12 digs, 5 kills, and 1 assist).
The JV team lost 14-25, 23-25, and the freshman Lady Comets won 25-23, 25-11.
JV LADY COMETS THIRD AT LINN TOURNAMENT
Fatima’s JV squad earned third at Saturday’s Linn tournament.
The Lady Comets opened with three pool-play splits against Fulton (25-14, 23-25), Eldon (25-16, 23-25), and Linn (25-10, 26-27) before entering the bracket portion.
After defeating New Bloomfield 25-22, 25-8, the Lady Comets lost to Blair Oaks (16-25, 25-21, 22-25) and defeated Versailles (25-17, 21-25, 25-23) to finish third.
On the day, the Lady Comets went 8-6 in set play.
