Fatima won the 63rd annual Legends Bank Holiday Classic with a victory over Osage on Saturday in the championship game, 47-36.

“Sometimes you have to rely on your defense and grit when things aren’t clicking on the offensive end,” said Coach Ryan Robertson. “Our guys showed a lot of grit and toughness on Saturday night. We didn’t shoot particularly well, and Osage is a very good defensive team. They give you nothing easy, so having four guys in double figures is such a good thing moving forward. Balanced scoring is difficult to combat.”

Fatima trailed 12-10 after the first quarter but held a 22-20 lead at the break. From there, the Comets controlled the third, 16-13, and surged in the fourth with a 9-3 edge to put the game away.

Blake Kliethermes scored all 12 of his points from long range (4 treys), and Matthew “Munch” Robertson (trey) also scored 12. Max Stuecken (2 treys) added 10, as did Xavier “Chet” Stuecken, while Sam Struemph (trey) finished with three. No other stats were available.

In the semis against Tipton on Thursday, M. Stuecken had a stellar outing with a game-high 45 points in the Comets’ 80-39 win.

“This was truly one of the greatest individual performances in Fatima basketball history,” said Robertson. “Max hitting 13 three-pointers with that kind of defensive attention on him was really remarkable. Almost as impressive was the way his teammates screened for him and found him when he was open. Max’s movement without the ball and his teammates’ screening were elite. It was a special night.”

Stuecken tied Fatima’s record for three-pointers in a single game. He went 13-21 from long range and 2-3 at the stripe for his points. Stuecken added five rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

By the end of the first quarter, the Comets led 27-11, a spread that increased to 53-20 by halftime. The onslaught continued in the third when Fatima outscored the Cardinals 22-12.

Robertson added a pair of three-pointers on his way to 13 points, with eight rebounds, three assists, a block, and a steal.

B. Kliethermes (2-7 3PT) added eight points, nine rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and a steal. Chet Stuecken put in six points while grabbing nine boards, with an assist and a block.

Sam Struemph put in five points, with three rebounds, two assists, and a steal.

Rounding out scoring were Logan Kliethermes with two (6 rebounds, 8 assists, steal) and Bryce Wieberg (1 point, 4 boards, assist).

In the opener against Linn, Fatima won 71-38.

Robertson (4-5 FT) led with 18 points to go with three boards, five assists, and four steals.

B. Kliethermes (trey, 3-4 FT) added 14 points, three rebounds, and four steals, as Chet Stuecken put in 13 (3-4 FT) with five rebounds, four steals, and a block. Struemph scored 10 (2-4 3PT, 2-2 FT) and posted an assist and a steal.

Other stats: Tanner Huhn (6 points, 2 rebounds), M. Stuecken (trey, 2-2 FT, 5 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, steal), and L. Kliethermes (3 points, 2 boards, 4 assists, steal).
