Fatima wins four straight, including first volleyball match in new gym

On Friday, the Lady Comets varsity volleyball team capped a four-win streak with a win over district opponent Stover in straight sets.

“The girls had a busy and straining week and were still able to hold a steady level of play throughout the match,” said Coach Ellie Crede. “We look forward to continuing to build our momentum.”

Stats: Aces: Lily Kempker (3), Annabelle Horton (2), Leah Muenks (1); kills: Alayna Backes (25), Addison Lehmen (8), Elizabeth Voss (5), Lily Kempker (4), Gracie Dickneite (3); blocks: Voss (2), Dickneite and Kempker (1 each); digs: Backes (17), Muenks (7), Horton, Camryn Muenks, and Kaylee Berhorst (5 apiece), Horton (4), Lehmen (3), Addisyn Nilges and Dickneite (1 each); assists: Kempker (40), Backes and Berhorst (2 apiece).

At the end of play last week, Kempker was ranked 22nd in the state for aces with 65 on the year.

Fatima defeated Stover, 25-17, 25-8, in the JV contest. No stats were available.

Lily Kempker hit 1,000 career assists in the Stover match. “We are so proud of her accomplishments and cannot wait to see where she continues to lead the team,” said Crede.

In the C match, Fatima won 25-15, 25-6.

On Thursday, Fatima began play in the new gym, and claimed a 25-20, 25-18, 25-11 win over Blair Oaks.

“We had an amazing turnout of fans during this match to support both our seniors and the volleyball team,” said Crede. “The team played an astonishing third set with minimal errors.”

Fatima also honored its four seniors: Backes, Kempker, Horton, and Addisyn Nilges. “We appreciate everything they’ve given to the program over the last four years,” said Crede.

The JV team won 25-19, 27-25.

On Tuesday, Fatima defeated Sullivan, 25-21, 25-23, 26-24, 25-22.

“Sullivan played a well-fought match, taking the third set, but we reset and pulled out the win,” said Crede.

The JV Lady Comets lost, 12-25, 12-25. No stats were available.

Fatima won the C match, 25-10, 16-25, 15-10.

Fatima started the week with a 25-21, 25-21, 26-24 win over Fr. Tolton.
