Fatima wrestlers competed at the Owensville tournament last weekend, with several earning top spots.
“Overall, it was a good weekend for the boys,” said Coach Kurt Strope. “We saw some good competition and wrestled them tough. Some got the wins, others lost by a few points, but I liked what I was seeing.”
Cody Strope finished first, Trevor Herzing, Chase Willis, and Tucker Tune were second, Alek Tune was third, and Zackery Kloeppel, Tyler Kloeppel, and Jesse Schroeder finished fourth.
Skyla Schroeder and Heidi Struemph wrestled at the Cole Camp tournament last weekend. Schroeder finished first, showing her dominance as she pinned her way through the competition. Heidi finished in second place.
“Both girls have continued to make improvements week to week, and it’s showing up against the tournaments,” said Coach Strope. “I like what I’m seeing out of Skyla. She is moving in the right direction for this time of year. Heidi is starting to come into her own as a first-year freshman wrestler, putting moves together to get wins and learning at the same time.”
Last Tuesday, the Comets wrestled a tough dual against North Callaway and won 35-30. Fatima won five of the seven contested matches by pin and only lost the two other matches by a very small margin.
Both squads will see tough competition in the coming week as they travel to St. Clair for a large tournament, the last before districts in mid-February.
