Frances Boessen

Frances Mengwasser Boessen, 94,Westphalia, passed away Thursday, Oct. 1, 2020, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.

She was born Nov. 6, 1925, to Herman and Agnes Bauer Mengwasser in Rich Fountain.

She was united in marriage to August M. Boessen, Jr., June 20, 1953, in Rich Fountain.

Frances was employed with the Reichel County School as a school bus driver in the late 1940’s until they closed. She was then employed with the International Shoe factory in Jefferson City, the pants factory in Linn and as a cook with Fatima High School until her retirement and then she worked many years as head cook for the Knights of Columbus.

Frances was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Westphalia, where she was president of the sewing circle for 16 years, the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary and the Western Catholic Union as an officer.

She was preceded in death by parents, Herman and Agnes; husband, August Jr.; brothers, John, Michael, Victor and Anthony Mengwasser; sister, Lidwina Brendel; granddaughter, Lydia Boessen; and great-granddaughter, Josie Peters.

Frances is survived by sons, August H. Boessen III and wife Janice, Richard J. Boessen and wife Betty, and Ronnie Boessen, all of Westphalia; daughters, Charlene B. Peters and husband Patrick of Linn, Karen M. Boess and friend Andrew Burnett of Westphalia; 13 grandchildre; and 15 great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, Oct. 5, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Westphalia with Fr. Anthony Viviano officiating. Interment was in St. Joseph Parish Cemetery in Westphalia.

Memorial contributions suggested to St. Joseph Catholic Church or Knights of Columbus Council 1171.
