Gage L. Wansing, 18, of Freeburg, has been charge with two counts assault in the third degree against a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, and domestic assault following an altercation Sunday.
Deputy Tanner Hinson said the victim reported she had come home to find Wansing and another individual outside the home. She took her child inside and after repeated questioning, finally learned the two were on “a little bit of Xanax.”
Wansing reportedly then became aggressive so the victim locked the door the house, but he broke a window trying to get in. The victim took the child and locked themselves in the bathroom.
Wansing got into the house and managed to get the bathroom door open, at which time the victim said he pushed her while she was holding her son, and then grabbed her phone while she was talking to 911 dispatchers, and broke it.
Sheriff Mike Bonham was first to arrive on the scene and found Wansing inside the home. While Wansing initially complied with commands and was handcuffed, he began kicking and assaulting the sheriff with hands and feet.
Deputy Hinson and Sgt. Vic Weir arrived and took charge of Wansing, securing his legs before placing him in a patrol car.
While processing the scene, deputies found a plate and straw containing a yellow powdery substance and half a pill on the kitchen table.
Wansing was transported to the Osage County Jail pending the application of charges and is being held without bond.
