Gregory Otto Sankey, Jr., 82, Freeburg, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2022, in SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Jefferson City.

He was born Aug. 3, 1939, to the late Gregory Otto and Marie Cecila (Schulte) Sankey, Sr. in Jefferson City.

He served his country in the U. S. Army from  Sept. 15, 1957 until March 9, 1959, when he was honorably discharged. 

Greg was united in marriage to Margaret Clara Falter Nov. 19, 1960, in Freeburg.

He graduated from Fatima High School in Westphalia in 1957; attended the Graham School of Cattlemen in 1974; received Emergency Medical Training in 1976, took the Dale Carnegie Course in 1977, completed real estate classes in 1994, as well as adult education classes for welding, electrical and computers at Fatima High School.  

Greg was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Koeltztown and the Argyle Knights of Columbus Council 2047.

He was employed with Probst Construction in Jefferson City;  Burk Bridge Company in Springfield; Davis Construction in Boonville; he owned and operated both a dairy farm and G&M Enterprises in Freeburg specializing in setting up and installing Taylor outside hot water furnaces; Burns Security and Scholastic, Inc., both in Jefferson City, until his retirement.  

Greg was preceded in death by wife of 61 years, Margaret; parents, Gregory Sr. and Marie; son, Keith Jerome Sankey; brothers, infant Herbert Francis Sankey and Jerome Norbert Sankey; and nephews, Ralph William Sankey and Timothy Gregory Schroeder.

He is survived by sons, David Sankey and wife Karen of Argyle and Glenn Sankey and wife Christy of Koeltztown; daughter, Carol Jones and husband Larry of Koeltztown; daughter-in-law, Cara  Sankey of Freeburg; eight  grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; sisters, Delores Scheppers and husband Joseph of Westphalia, Bernice Schroeder and husband George of Argyle; brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold Falter and wife Judy of Freeburg  and Marita Wansing and husband Danny of Dixon.

A Mass of Christian burial was held Tuesday, June 14, in St. Boniface Catholic Church in Koeltztown.  Interment with full military honors was in St. Boniface Cemetery in Koeltztown.

Memorial contributions suggested for Masses or to the St. Boniface Endowment Fund.
