Lyle R. Haslag, 36, Loose Creek, was indicted Wednesday, June 24, and taken into custody Thursday by the Osage County Sheriff’s Office on a federal warrant, and he’s facing a felony charge of unlawful transport of firearms in the Missouri Western District Court. Haslag was turned over to federal marshals and is in federal custody in Jefferson City, with an initial appearance before Magistrate Judge Willie J. Epps, Jr. last Friday, who assigned a federal public defender to the case.

Sheriff Mike Bonham said he is pleased with the federal interest in this case.

“We continue to work hard with our partners and they have also embraced working with Osage County law enforcement,” he added.

Haslag was initially taken into custody March 3, following the execution of a search warrant by the Osage County Sheriff’s Office, Mid-Missouri Drug Task Force and Missouri State Highway Patrol at his residence on CR 403.

Haslag was charged in Osage County with felony unlawful possession of a firearm.

A probable cause statement filed by the Mid-Missouri Drug Task Force notes that Haslag, a convicted felon, admitted to having a Ruger 10-22, .22 caliber rifle in a gun safe in the residence.

While searching a room believed to be used by the defendant due to all the men’s clothing and copy of the defendant’s Missouri driver’s license, a set of digital scales, a modified straw, and a glass bong with a colored liquid and stem with white powder in it were located on a stand.

A field test showed a positive result for methamphetamine, and liquid extracted from the bong, which also field-tested positive for methamphetamine, had a preliminary weight of more than 90 grams.

Haslag has prior felony convictions ranging from burglary and theft to possession of controlled substances.
