“Hat of Champions” tradition alive as five FHS athletes earn wins at Osage
Fatima track has a tradition. Each season, Coach Marc Bridges gets a new white Fatima hat and every time an athlete wins an event they get to sign the “Hat of Champions.”
“We got this season started with five new signatures on the ‘HOC,’” said Bridges.
Winners at Osage were Heidi Struemph in the 800m (2:28.15), Anna Rakestraw in the 3200m (14:11.25), Grant Wilbers in the 110m hurdles (17.51), Zach Kloeppel in the 800m (2:08.60), and Michael Gabelsberger in the 3200m (10:26.21).
“Overall, I was pleased with all of our efforts,” said Bridges. “On the girls’ side Heidi and Brie Massman (2, 2:29.39) in the 800m run really stood out as top performances. Sadi Lehmen, Elise Dickneite, Karly Bock and Maggie Peters had some very good sprints and a very nice 4x100m relay (2, 54.19). Mya Sankey in the discus (2, 27.41m) and Megan Gabelsberger in the shot put (3, 9.37m) were bright spots in the throws. Maggie Peters (3, 2.59m) and Sadi Lehmen (5, 2.26m) looked very good in the vault.
“On the boys’ side, Tyler Koenigsfeld led the way for the sprints, while Trace Walters showed a lot of improvement from last season,” Bridges added. “Grant Wilbers looked very good in the 110m hurdles and javelin (5, 38.02m). Our 800m runners, Zach Kloeppel, Zack Eisterhold (2:15.29), and Wyatt Dake (2:15.72) looked very dominant, earning first through third. Paden Luebbert led the way for our throwers.”
