Helen Ann (Zimmer) Winkelman, 97, formerly of Meta, passed away Sunday, May 30, 2021, at Villa Marie in Jefferson City.  

She was born April 27, 1924, to the late Lawrence and Adeline (Roecker) Zimmer in Defiance, Iowa.

She was united in marriage to Bernard Joseph Winkelman Feb. 5, 1946, in Brinktown.

Helen had a career spanning over 30 years as a bookkeeper with Knollmeyer Lumber.  She was an active member in her community, serving as mayor and city clerk for numerous years.  Her favorite pastimes included quilting and reading.  Helen was a faithful member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Meta.  

She was preceded in death by husband, Bernard; parents, Lawrence and Adeline; daughter, Kathleen Winkler; grandson, Eric Orscheln; sons-in-law, James Sullivan and Arthur Orscheln; brother, Vernon Zimmer and sister, Leona Fick.

Helen is survived by four daughters, Donna Sullivan of Shawnee, Kan., Linda Orscheln of Bonnots Mill, Marilyn  Schieder and husband Jerome of Kansas City and Theresa Smith and husband Russel of Hastings, Neb.; son-in-law, Lance Winkler of Columbia; grandchildren, Jonathan Sullivan and wife Bethany, Elizabeth (J) Morgan, Anne Luebbert, Valerie Kempker and husband James, Ryan Burns and husband Will, Tyler Winkler, and wife Monica; Karly Sales and husband Brandon, Doug  Schieder and wife Shawna, Amy Hester, and husband Jason; Beth McKelvey and husband Mark, Kevin Smith and Rachel Duryea and husband Alex; granddaughter-in-law, Tricia Orscheln LePage and husband Kyle, 24 great-grandchildren with one on the way; siblings, Luella Fick, Ivan and Larry Zimmer; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., with Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 8, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Meta with Fr. Leonard Mukiibi officiating.  Interment will be held at St. Cecilia Cemetery.  

The family has requested for those attending the visitation or Mass to follow the CDC guidelines, which requires those who have not been vaccinated to wear facial masks.  

Memorial contributions suggested to St. Cecilia Cemetery Trust or Hospice Compassus in Jefferson City.
