Herbert Vance Rowden, 96, Vienna, passed away Thursday, March 16, 2023, at Phelps Health in Rolla.
He was born Nov. 6, 1926, to the late Clarence Ovid and Jessie Jewel (McKee) Rowden in Maries County.
He served his country in the U. S. Army.
Herbert was united in marriage to Eugenia “Jane” Marie Veasman July 3, 1947, in St. Louis.
He farmed, as well as worked for the Brown Shoe Company in Dixon for 30 plus years.
Herbert was preceded in death by wife, Jane; parents, Clarence and Jessie; sons, Michael and Bruce Rowden; two grandsons; one granddaughter; brother, Harold Rowden; and sisters, Dorris Finn and Jean Vaughan.
He is survived by sons, Ronnie “Ron” Rowden and wife Elizabeth, Dennis Rowden and wife Dot and Roger Rowden and wife Amy, all of Vienna, Donald “Donnie” Rowden and wife Peggy of Dixon, Bryan Rowden and wife Wilma of Meta and Doug Rowden and wife Rose Mary of Brinktown; daughters, Marilyn Blackwell of Pocahontas, Ark., Judy Slone and husband Mike and Brenda Rollins, all of Dixon; 23 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; brother, Wilburn Rowden of Holts Summit; sister, Carol Ann Miller and husband Lewis of Dixon; brother-in-law, Donley Veasman and wife Charlotte of Dixon; sisters-in-law, Lois Rowden of Meta, Bernice Veasman of Brinktown and Agnes Wilson of St. Louis.
Mass of Christian burial was held March 18, in Holy Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Brinktown with Rev. Basil Tigga officiating and Deacon Michael Brooks assisting.
Interment with full military honors was in Holy Guardian Angels Cemetery.
Memorial contributions suggested to Masses, the American Cancer Society or to the Holy Guardian Angels Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund.
Arrangements entrusted to Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home in Vienna.
