Hilma Rae Shippen, 94, Jefferson City, passed away Friday, May 20, 2022, at her daughter’s home in Hazelwood.

She was born Dec. 16, 1927, to the late Frank Dempster and Effie Mae (Streeter) Miller in Breckenridge.

She grew up on a farm in rural Caldwell County and later her family moved into the town of Hamilton where she graduated from Hamilton High School in 1945.

Hilma was united in marriage to Oren Francis Shippen Dec. 22, 1946, at her parents’ house in Hamilton. The couple first met at church.

She worked primarily as a homemaker, raising seven children while her husband taught school in Missouri, Nebraska, Indiana and Iowa.

Hilma enjoyed gardening, putting together jigsaw puzzles, reading, playing card and board games.

She was preceded in death by husband of 44 years, Oren; parents, Frank and Effie; son, Robert Eugene Shippen; sister, Nettie Swann; brothers, Frank, Russell, LeRoy and James Miller, along with two sets of twin siblings who all died shortly after their birth.

Hilma is survived by daughters, Brenda Jean Tenes and husband Edward of Rolla, Karen Rae Shippen and friend Randy Woods of Memphis, Patricia Sue Hall and husband Leo of Cedar Hill, Peggy Ann Dierker and husband David of Hazelwood and Carol Lynne Shippen and friend Matthew Taylor of Jefferson City; son, Michael Lee Shippen and wife Rosa of Springfield, Va.; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one step-great-granddaughter; sister-in-law, Lois Yost of Cameron; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m., Saturday, June 11, at Morton Chapel in Linn followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 3 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Sherry Lile officiating. Inurnment will be held in the Linn Public Cemetery
