The junior high Lady Pirates cross country team had a great day at last Wednesday’s conference meet at South Callaway, finishing with a conference champ and three All-Conference runners.

“What a meet for the five girls that started off slow but has come along very well this season,” said Coach John Leach. “I’m very proud of these young women. Madeline, Elsey, and Rylee placed in the top ten. The other two runner ran one of their best times of the year. It was team effort. I’m very proud to say the girls won the conference title over Fatima by one point. Great job girls.”

Madeline Gerloff won the meet in a time of 10:22 as Elsey Wuelling was fifth in 11:36 and Rylee Davis finished seventh in a time of 13:05. Devin Slusser crossed next for Chamois in a time of 13:05 for 13th place, and Eevie Halbert posted a time of 13:47 for 17th place.

The only boys runner was Cale Keilholz, and he finished fourth in 10:12 to earn All-Conference honors.

“I am very happy how he has run this year as a seventh- grader,” said Leach. “He tries very hard in the practice, and gives all he has at every meet.”
