During a Thursday morning bond review hearing for Alyssa N. Wehmeyer in Cape Girardeau County’s 32nd Circuit Court in Jackson, Judge Gary A. Kamp implemented a $100,000 cash or surety bond with 10 stipulations in addition to the original warrant.
Wehmeyer was charged on Feb. 28 with allegations of abuse and neglect of a child, resulting in death, a class A felony. She was held on a $100,000 cash-only bond in the death of her 19-month-old son Colt Keeney. Wehmeyer is a 2022 graduate of Owensville High School and Keeney’s father resides in the Belle area.
On March 17, Weymeyer was in court with Attorney Jacob Zimmerman requesting a bond reduction. The state, represented by Attorney Tabatha Blakely, opposed the reduction. Kamp originally said he would take the issue of bond under advisement.
On March 19, Kamp issued a new order modifying the bond conditions with stipulations. The 10 stipulations included:
-
Wehmeyer could post a $100,000 cash or surety bond;
-
May not be around children under 12 years old;
-
May not possess or consume any drugs except for those prescribed by a doctor or surgeon. Drugs included marijuana;
-
May not possess or consume any intoxicating beverages of any kind, type or nature and may not be in the same location where alcohol is possessed or consumed;
-
May not leave the state of Missouri for any reason;
-
Must be home every day between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.;
-
Shall not be present in the city limits of Belle;
-
Must reside with her uncle Steven Bruce and not move from his residence with express written approval from the court;
-
Shall wear a GPS monitor and participate in a GPS monitoring program operated by a private correctional service located in Jackson, prior to leaving the Cape Girardeau County Jail; and
-
All other previously ordered special conditions of the bond listed in Wehmeyer’s warrant are still in effect.
Wehmeyer is due back in court at 9 a.m. on April 8 for a continuance.
Correction: In an article published in the March 26 edition of The Republican titled “Cape Girardeau woman charged in son’s death receives new bond stipulations,” the petitioner for bond reduction was inaccurately identified as “Keeney.” The petitioner was actually the defendant in the case, Alyssa N. Wehmeyer. The Republican regrets the error.
