Kliethermes Wins Coin Flip

Fatima R-3 board members certified the election results and, according to the county clerk, Matt Robertson earned the most votes at 262, while Mandy Kliethermes and Coby Holzschuh garnered 187 votes each. There were five write-in votes.

“Talking with both tied candidates they have said they would flip a coin,” Superintendent Chuck Woody said. “That goes to the board secretary.”

School Board Secretary Tim Luebbering said, “I brought a special coin that I got from a good friend who served in Egypt. The medco is going to be heads and the flags are going to be tails.”

Kliethermes called tails as the coin was flipped and was declared the victor after the coin landed heads down.

Holzschuh was thanked for his service by the board before Kliethermes and Roberts were sworn in by Luebbering.

Flipping a coin saved the district the cost of a run-off election.

Reorganization of the board was conducted and the following officers were elected by their peers: Doug Luebbering, president; Keith Huhn, vice president; Tim Luebbering, secretary; and Patty Schnieders, treasurer. Suzanne Massman was elected to serve as the district’s Missouri School Boards’ Association (MSBA) delegate.
