The Lady Wildcats on Thursday wrapped up the regular season with a 46-44 win over Fatima, marking the first time in several years that Linn has swept the Lady Comets.

“The girls moved the ball very well on offense, and they played hard on defense,” said Coach Brandi Moore. “Fatima put a lot of pressure on our guards opening up a lot of opportunities for our post players.”

Fatima held a 15-12 lead after the first quarter, but Linn’s defense stepped up in the second, holding the Lady Comets to just three points to take a 21-18 lead at the break. Fatima made up two points in the third, but Linn countered with a two-point edge in the final period for the win.

Linn hit 43.2% from the floor and went 5-14 from long range, compared to a 9-24 mark for the Lady Comets from three-point range.

Alexis Wolfe led Linn with 14 points and Claire Baker (trey) added 11 points, followed by Aushara Hostetler (trey, 6), Jessica Keilholz (5), Lexie Heidbrink (5), Autumn Baker and Nicole Deeken (2 apiece) and Lindsey Brandt (1). J. Keilholz had a big night with six assists as Hostetler, Brandt and A. Baker added two each.

Wolfe’s six rebounds led the way, with four more from A. Baker and Heidbrink, while C. Baker grabbed three.

Defensively, Wolfe and J. Keilholz counted two steals apiece, with the former adding two blocks to go with one from Heidbrink. In the JV game, Linn lost 32-25.

“This was the best game of the season even though we lost,” said Coach Wayne Wilson. “We made a lot of improvements this year.”

Leading scorers were Elizabeth Heckman (9) and Hannah Hall (5), as Marly Houston added three, and Emma Schaefer, Emma Fennell, Ellie Monnette, and Natalie Morre each scored two.

Schaefer led with rebounds, Karlee Cox had four, Hall and Monnette each posted two, and Macci Blauvelt and Houston finished with one apiece.

The Lady Cats had a tough game against South Callaway, losing 73-31.

“We played hard against a very talented South Callaway team,” said Moore.

Aushara Hostetler drained three treys and led the team with 13 points, as C. Baker put in six, Deeken added four, and Brandt, Kennedy Frank, Rachel Keilholz and Wolfe scored two apiece.

On the glass, C. Baker grabbed six rebounds, R. Keilholz added four, and A. Baker and Hostetler finished with three each.

Brandt posted three steals, while Chloe Rhoden and Wolfe each had a steal and a block, and A. Baker, Frank and Heidbrink each had one steal.

In a makeup game last Wednesday, the Lady Cats fell to New Bloomfield, 53-49.

“We competed hard against a good defensive team,” said Moore. “Last night was our third game in a row this week. Although we were not as quick and aggressive as usual the girls played hard and kept us in a position to win the game.” Tied at 10-10 after one, Linn trailed 28-23 at the break and faced a seven- point deficit heading into the final period, but kept the game close until the end.

Aushara Hostetler scored a season-high 23 points. Wolfe added eight, C. Baker and Rhoden each scored six, A. Baker posted four, and Brandt finished with two.

In the JV game, the Lady Cats lost 40-17 as Monette and Heckman scored five points apiece to lead the team. Also scoring were Houston (3), and Blauvelt and Schaefer, each with two.

On the glass, Heckman (9) and Schaefer (7) led the way, as Monnette posted three and Houston added two.

On Monday, Feb. 17, the Lady Cats defeated Tuscumbia, 51-35. “We played solid defense and rebounded the ball really well against a physical team,” said Moore. “We shot the ball well as a team.”

C. Baker led with 14 points, Wolfe had a great game with 13 points and 11 rebounds, and J. Keilholz drew Linn’s first charge of the season.

After staking to an 18-10 first-quarter lead, the Lady Wildcats continued to push the advantage with an 8-4 edge in the second. Tuscumbia won the third, but Linn pushed ahead in the fourth, 16-10, to claim the win.
