Lady Comets build momentum on and off field with packed schedule

The Fatima Lady Comets welcomed a full schedule this week, balancing competition, community, and connection with two home games, a day-long team retreat, and a successful fundraiser.

On the pitch, the Comets had two home games, continuing to build their team rhythm late in the season. A highlight came during the match against California, when freshman Lauren Stuecken scored her first career goal—an exciting moment for both her and the team. Unfortunately, the Lady Comets went on to lose 3-1.

Off the field, Lady Comets dedicated an entire day to a team retreat centered on fun, individual leadership, and team unity. The retreat kicked off with a trip to Columbia, which included lunch, the Mizzou Soccer game against KU, and a visit to the University of Missouri campus.

The second half of the retreat was made possible by Westphalia Inn owners Sam and Leslie Barnhart, who allowed the Lady Comets to take over the historic property for the night. The team started with a scavenger hunt, which led them across Westphalia to 10 local landmarks after dinner at Pizza Haus.

Later that night, the team heard speeches from Fatima soccer alum Maya Libbert and Westphalia Inn’s Korie Bock. The Lady Comets also set individual soccer goals during a workshop, competed in two fun contests, and more.

Head coach Kelley-Marie Wibberg noted the experience gave players time to reflect, recharge and recommit to their growth as individuals and teammates.

To top it off, the team, parents, and coaches also hosted a pork burger sale that raised around $2,800 in support of the boys’ and girls’ soccer program. The event drew strong community support from the Knights of Columbus, Joe’s Market, and Legends Bank.

“The last week and a half was a perfect example of what makes this team and community special,” said Wibberg. “We’re not just growing as soccer players. We’re building a strong, connected group that supports each other in every way. We owe huge thanks to the parents who make all of these ‘extra’ experiences possible for the girls.”

With renewed energy and focus, the Lady Comets now look ahead to the final games of their season.
