Chamois played a solid game Monday to defeat St. Elizabeth 45-36 on the night homecoming was rescheduled, edging the Lady Hornets in every quarter.

“This was a game we needed to play,” said Coach John Leach. “We shot the ball better, but we still need more scoring from other players.”

The bulk of the scoring came from Katie Keilholz, who prior to the game was crowned Homecoming Queen, as she scored 24 points, half coming in a 4-8 mark from three-point range with a 4-4 performance at the free-throw line.

MaKenna Wuelling hit a pair of treys and went 7-9 from the line to score 19, as Alexis Slusser put in two. Wuelling’s four assists led the team with three more from K. Keilholz and one by Ariel Owens.

Chamois took a 20-14 lead into intermission, and kept up the pressure in the second half, winning the third 15-14 and the final quarter 10-8.

Slusser led with eight rebounds as Owens and Wuelling each collected three, K. Keilholz had two Abby Keilholz had one.

A solid defensive effort led to 29 turnovers, which helped seal the win.

K. Keilholz and Wuelling shared the steals lead with seven apiece, while Owens had five, Slusser counted three, and Chloe Holloway and Veronica Slack finished with one each.

Last Tuesday, the Lady Pirates lost to Capital City, 38-28. “We didn’t have a lot of enthusiasm in this game,” said Leach.

“We were a step slow a lot of the time, but there were places in the game where we played better. We just couldn’t get the ball to go in.”

Trailing 22-15 at the break, Chamois played even (8-8) in the third but scored only five points in the final eight minutes.

Wuelling paced the squad with 13 points, including three treys, as K. Keilholz hit a pair of three-pointers and covered 4-4 from the FT line en route to 12 points, with three more from Slusser.

Wuelling had all four of the team’s assists on the night, and led with 11 rebounds to post a double- double.

Also with rebounds were Slack and Slusser (each with 5), A. Keilholz (4), and Owens and Holloway (2 apiece).

Defensively, Wuelling counted three steals.
