Lawrence Herman Falter, 95, Koeltztown, passed away Thursday, Oct.8, 2020, in StoneBridge Westphalia.

He was born Aug. 31, 1925, to Joseph Fred and Anna Josephine (Bax) Falter in Freeburg.

He was united in marriage to Lillian Marie Borgmeyer, May 7, 1949, in Koeltztown.

Lawrence entered into active federal service in the U. S. Navy, Feb. 21, 1945, in St. Louis and served until July 24, 1946, when he was honorably discharged at the U.S. Naval Personnel Separation Center, St. Louis, at the rank of Shipfitter Third Class. During his naval career, he received training and schooling in St. Louis, the state of Virginia, and Shoemaker, Calif., and served onboard the USS OTUS, the USS EGERIA, and the USS MAUI. He was awarded and entitled to wear the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and the United States Victory Medal. A man of excellent character, Lawrence’s “Honorable Discharge” is a testimonial of honest and faithful service to his country during World War II.

He was a faithful and devoted member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Koeltztown, where he was baptized and received his education. He was also a longtime member of the Argyle Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States of America Post 8045 in Argyle. Lawrence was a lifelong farmer in Osage County, prior to his retirement.

He was preceded in death by parents, Joseph and Anna; son, James John Falter; grandson, John Daniel Falter; brothers, Emil Frank Falter, Henry Joseph Falter and Jerome Frank Falter; sisters, Teresa Frances Kloeppel and Martha M. Hobbs; and brothers-in-law, Andrew Jacob Kloeppel and Vloice Hobbs.

Lawrence is survived by wife of over 71 years, Lillian of the home in Koeltztown; children, Daniel J. Falter and wife Linda of Freeburg, Allen F. Falter and wife Connie of Argyle, Carolyn Forck and husband Dennis of Taos, Richard L. Falter and wife Laure, Leroy F. Falter and wife Leigh Ann and Paul H. Falter and wife Sandy, all of Koeltztown and Joan E. Stratman and husband Victor of Vienna; 20 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Leander Falter and wife Teresa and Norbert Falter and wife Anne, all of Westphalia; sister-in-law, Darlene Falter of Freeburg; nephews, nieces, with greats and great-greats as well; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held, Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 11 a.m., in the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Koeltztown with the Rev. James Finder officiating.

Interment, with full military honors by American Legion Post 317, Freeburg, was in the St. Boniface Cemetery in Koeltztown.

Memorial contributions suggested to the “Honor Flight” program for veterans, Masses, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Arrangements entrusted to Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home in Vienna.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Justin, Nathan, Eric, Adam and Corey Falter, Brian Forck and Matt Stratman and posthumous honorary pallbearers were his son, James John Falter and grandson, John Daniel Falter.
