LFPD board discusses concrete project; Hoffman presents Herndon with 15-year service award

LINN — At Thursday’s meeting, Linn Fire Protection District board members spent a fairly significant amount of time discussing bids and pricing for additional concrete parking budgeted for this year. While the bids were straightforward, several board members questioned the amount of concrete the district would have to buy. Ultimately, they selected B&P Patterson for $4,700 over Miller, which bid $6,551. Both figures were for labor only, with materials to be purchased by the district.

The district also selected Patterson to install a wheelchair ramp for $6,200.

In other business, Chief Ron Hoffman presented President Scott Herndon with a 15-year service award.

• Board member Colby Nilges asked if it would be a good idea for the board to review its by-laws, to which no one objected. Treasurer/Secretary Julie Ruettgers said she would email the by-laws to board members. Board President Herndon said he would look at them in June, giving board members two months to review the by-laws prior to discussion.

• Hoffman reported that the district’s poker run had gone well, with 50 or 51 vehicles participating. He was pleased with the turnout and said all pork steak meals had been sold. A complete tally of profits was not yet available.

• He said SkillsUSA had also gone well, with eight participants. Because they only had four judges, they ran each contest twice, with half of the participants competing each time.

• Hoffman also said he had received no calls for the design-build of their new fire station near the fairgrounds.

One of the bids received for the gutter replacement and ice rail did not include the latter, so it will need to be updated before the board can make a decision.

• The solar panel presentation planned for the meeting has been delayed until next month.

• Bills were approved in the amount of $3,671.38.

• The next meeting will be on Thursday, May 15, at Station 1.
