Linda Louise Jost, 86, Westphalia, passed away peacefully with her loving husband of 66 years, Frank F. Jost Jr., by her side Feb. 1, 2021.
She was born May 18, 1934, to the late Edward and Mary (Fedor) Chicowlas in Detroit, Mich.,
She was united in marriage to Frank July 10, 1954, at the Naval Air Technical Training Center Memphis in Millington, Tenn.
Linda graduated from St. Rita’s High School in Detroit in 1952 and proudly served her country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. She attained the rank of Seaman and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. Linda attended Southeast Missouri University and later studied history at Lincoln University. She retired after 25 years of service as the membership clerk at Three Rivers Electric Cooperative in Linn.
A lifelong Catholic, Linda was an active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Loose Creek, having served on several committees and projects. She was a member of the American Legion Paul Hasenbeck Post #317 and Willing Workers Civic Club in Loose Creek.
Linda’s true joy was being a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. For 66 years, she lovingly cared for her family. Linda did everything from substitute teaching at St. George Catholic School in Linn, being a Scouting and 4-H leader and attending countless school activities to making every birthday special and traveling hours for graduations and weddings. She and Frank loved to travel and Linda collected seashells from every destination. Spending time with family and friends on the Gasconade and Osage rivers was one of their favorite pastimes. Linda had a passion for reading, enjoyed sewing and especially loved going out with the “Three Rivers gals” and her circle of friends from Willing Workers.
She was preceded in death by parents, Edward and Mary; son, Ron; mother- and father-in-law, Flossie Lee and Frank Jost, Sr.; sister-in-law, Drucilla Moore; brother-in-laws, Blair Moore, Ferrel Jost and Steven Grimes; and son-in-law Daniel Creach.
Linda is survived by children, Randy Jost and wife Vickie, Donna Jost and husband Ron, Melissa Helmig and husband Randy and Cindy Ruether and husband Gary; grandchildren, Tom Jost and wife Hope, Halie Oyler and husband Dan, Brad Jost and wife Janelle, Emelia Torres and husband Adan, Greg Jost and wife Austin, Chelsea Inman and husband Ben, Cari Divine and husband Prince, Christine Berg and husband Josh, Nathan Helmig, Casandra Helmig, Michelle Hirschman and husband Kyle and Samantha Ruether; 11 great-grandchildren; brother ,William “Bill” Chicowlas and wife Nancy; sisters Joanne Taylor and husband Jim, Marge Chicowlas and friend Steven Grimes and Elaine Schuch and husband Greg; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial Monday, Feb. 15, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Loose Creek with Rev. Anthony R. Rinaldo and Rev. Ignazio C. Medina co-officiating. Private interment will be in Riverview Cemetery with full military honors.
