Linn’s 4x200m relay team of Kahne Brandt, Tommy Scheulen, Titus Black, and Cody Heckman broke the previous school record of 1:35.12 with a Class 2, District 4 championship time of 1:34.56 to advance to this weekend’s sectional at South Callaway.

“We knew the 4x200 boys could and would break the school record,” said Coach Jennifer Bish. “Of course, we just didn’t know when it would happen. These boys were determined to break it, and were locked in all week with that goal in mind.”

Cody Heckman finished second in the 100m dash in a season best 11.44, and Andrew Ely claimed second in the 800m run (2:10.11). Rounding out the boys’ sectional qualifiers was the fourth-place 4x100m relay team of K. Brandt, Aaden Nelson, Black, and Scheulen (season best, 46.21).

On the girls’ side, the 4x400m relay team of Nevaeh Ames, Charli Lenger, Shayla Burnett, Ruby Herndon earned third place (4:51.77), the 4x800m team of  Herndon, Lenger, Burnett, and Kylie Messenger ran a time of 11:34.19 for fourth, Genna Haslag placed fourth in the 1600m run (6:25.70), and Messenger took fourth in the 3200m run (14:43.24).

“We are proud of those advancing to sectionals and all the others competing on our team,” said Bish. “They all went out and gave their very best, with several of them making finals and coming close to qualifying. Linn track and field has a bright future with many young athletes.”
