Linn R-2 earns top 20 in growth of scores

LINN  — Linn High School Principal Erin Sassmann announced recently that students had seen a significant improvement in math and English Language Arts (ELA).

“I am very excited to share the news that Linn has been named in the Prime 2022 Missouri State Growth Report,” Sassmann said. “This is a really exciting honor, and we should be proud of our students and teachers for their hard work.”

The report highlights the top 20 schools for statewide student growth.

At the middle school level, Linn ranked 10th in school-wide mathematics growth with a score of 96.3%, meaning 46.7% of students scored proficient or advanced on last year’s Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) tests.

In her ninth year at Linn and 19th overall in education, math teacher Laura Voss said that seeing students succeed in and out of the classroom is always the goal. “Despite COVID-19 and the challenges our students face, I am so proud of their dedication to being their best in the math classroom,” she said.

In seventh and eighth-grade math, Voss uses Evaluate testing in addition to Chapter Math Assessments, and this data helps to drive instruction. “We try to connect math with the real world as much as possible,” she explained. “Our middle school math students work hard, and I could not be more thrilled with their accomplishment in improving their skills.”

Linn ranked 20th in Top Subgroup in ELA with a growth score of 93.4%. That means 42.6% of students scored proficient or advanced on last year’s MAP tests. R-2 has an enrollment of 324 students.

Sassmann said this is a great accomplishment for Linn R-2 Middle School. “Even though I was not here for the testing last spring, I am very excited at the growth these students have made,” she added. “It shows their hard work has paid off! With our excellent teachers and staff in the middle school this year, I’m excited to see how much more growth students can make this spring.”
