Louis J. Mehmert, Jr. ,70, Chamois passed away Monday, March 31, 2025, at SSM Hospital in Jefferson City, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Dec.18, 1954, to the late Louis J. and Norma L. (Hutsler) Mehmert in Jefferson City.

He was united in marriage to Deborth A. (Reynolds) March 5, 1977, in Chamois.

Lou graduated from Osage County R-1 High School and Linn Technical College simultaneously in 1973.

He worked on the family farm and held numerous jobs, until he found his calling with Union Pacific Railroad retiring after 30 years. Upon retirement Lou went back to work for the Osage County Road and Bridge Department working until his health deteriorated. Lou was born with farming in his blood and a love of the great outdoors and his love for the railroad became his joy.

He was blessed with three wonderful children and enjoyed them dearly. Then came the grandchildren and they became his life. Lou loved and enjoyed every minute he had with them, and they were his conversations.

He was proceeded in death by parents, Louis and Norma; brothers, Christopher and Joseph Mehmert; and granddaughter, Cresentia Leona Wolfe.

Lou is survived by spouse of 47 years, Debby; children, James Mehmert and wife Becca, Cliff Mehmert and Jenny Wolfeand husband Sam,  all from Chamois; stepdaughter, Jennifer Collins and husband Jared of Jefferson City; grandchildren, Cheyanna Schuler and husband Hunter, Daniel Wolfe and wife Talee, Johnathan and Payton Wolfe, lsaiah, Trinity, Emmit, Allyson, Waylon and Colton Mehmert, Evert and Emma Mehmert and Xavier Woldanski; great-grandchildren, Ava and Aliea Schuler and Jocelyn, Ashton and Raven Wolfe; siblings, Mike Mehmert and wife Kathy, Mark Mehmert and wife Debbie, Theresa Roth and husband Kevin, Mary Reynolds, Matt Mehmert, Jannette Eggen and husband Chad and Michelle Mehmert; brother and sister in-laws, Carol Dismang, Alice Ruth and husband Earl, Bill Wibberg and wife Cindy and Vernon Wibberg and wife Diane; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date,

Memorial contributions suggested to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
